2011 IJSBA World Finals - PRO RUNABOUT OPEN RESULTS

Sunday 9th October 2011 (US Time) Sunday 9th October 2011 (US Time) Lake Havasu City, Arizona

Sam had very strong start but got tapped heavily by another ski on holeshot and broke the engine mount. It shifted about 50mm and also affected the pump. Despite the damage and lack of power, he made his way through the pack but not enough to finish in the ranks, therefore unfortunately won't be on the podium this year.

The Sam Harvey Racing Team worked hard to get the boat back on the start line after the hit in the GP class, and Sam is still carrying an injury ... however watching James Bushell from the UK win on the Les Cooke Sea-Doo brought back fantastic memories of 2009 when Sam so deservedly won the World Championship - he was the first non American and first Privateer to win the title ...

The Sam Harvey Racing team congratulate James Bushell on his World Championship titles Pro Runabout and GP runabout, Kylie Elmers (Australia) on Womens Poleski, and Steven Dauliach (France) for taking out the Pro Ski Opens. All non-Americans take the top titles this year.

2011 Seadoo Woodbine New Zealand Jet Sports Nationals

30 April and 1st May 2011 Blue Lake Rotorua, New Zealand

At the 2011 New Zealand Seadoo Woodbine Jet Sport Nationals over the weekend, previous World Runabout Champion Sam Harvey of Auckland added another title to his impressive string of accomplishments, and another trophy to an already overflowing shelf. The combination of Sam’s dedicated training regime, his world class skill, and a smooth run on his Seadoo GTI gave him a clean sweep of all five races bestowing him the title of New Zealand Runabout Champion again.

Despite the efforts of veteran rider Brad Clarke from Christchurch, also on a Seadoo, who managed to get in front of Sam after he made a minor error on his first lap, Harvey fought back and regained the lead within half a lap of the course. In the last race of the weekend Harvey intentionally had a handicap start, using the race as his training for the World Finals, and also giving the other competitors the benefit of competing against him side by side. He picked each rider off steadily, and quickly regained the lead, showing his true talents as a force not be to reckoned with!

The New Zealand Championships were originally being hosted by the Canterbury Jet Sport Club in March, however following the earthquake the event was cancelled. The Auckland Jet Sport Association approached Peter Harvey, director of Woodbine Marine regarding sponsoring the event so that the race could be relocated to Blue Lake in Rotorua. The generous sponsorship of Seadoo, in association with Woodbine Marine, where 27 year old Sam Harvey is Manager, enabled this pinnacle event on the New Zealand race calendar to continue. “Without the support of all the other sponsors, help from the other affiliated jetski clubs, and the excellent efforts of all the volunteers and officials this race wouldn’t have happened. Thanks to my sponsors, especially Seadoo, and to all the competitors for an excellent weekend of racing, and it’s great to see so many talented novices coming through the sport” says Harvey.

He may have another premium title under his belt, but the biggest challenge is yet to come. In October this year, the Woodbine Racing Team will return to Lake Havasu City in Arizona, on the hunt for Sams’ previous prestigious title of World Pro Am Runabout Champion.

2010 IJSBA World Finals - GP

Lake Havasu City, Arizona USA

Sam had a great start in the second motto of the GP Runabout Open Class, and he lead convincingly finishing first, despite the race officials mixing up the flags. Harvey, from Auckland New Zealand unfortunately was not awarded the title due to a controversial missed buoy. The official results were announced at the prizegiving on Sunday 10th October (US time). Regardless of the end result, well done to Sam, Peter Harvey and the Woodbine Racing Team, the sponsors, and of course Seadoo Centre Melbourne Australia, and LC Engineering from Lake Havasu! Their hard work and dedication gave Sam every opportunity to take out this World Title, however this year it wasn't to be. But thats racing. Sam will return to New Zealand, take a short break, and then prepare for the summer series, and possibly a further international race.

2010 Quakysense World Finals - Pro Runabout Open

Sunday 10th October 2010 (US Time) Lake Havasu City, Arizona USA

Sam had a great start in the first motto of his Pro Runabout Open race, and was sitting in second place for most of the race however his Seadoo blew a hose, ending his chances of taking back his title as World Champion Pro Runabout.

After a false start and track issues, the second motto was eventually re-run. Sam had a fantastic start, shooting him out in front, just behind Farthing who got holeshot. This nail biting race was a great battle to the end, including Farthing pulling out his lanyard. Even though Sam was placed second behind Farthing on the second motto, it was unfortunately not enough points to put him on the podium for this class.

Sadly he doesn't come back to New Zealand with a World Title, but the ski was fast, and Sam was at the top of his game for fitness, and emotional and physical preparation. His months and months of training, dedication and commitment to the sport is unsurpassed. In the true kiwi style, Harvey congratulated Dustin Farthing on his win, knowing that it wasn't his turn again. Harvey was a strong contender, and was looking very promising, but that's racing at this world class international level.
